IRC Enthusiasts

We're just a bunch of old schoolers that decided to bring a new and exciting network to the table. Most of us here started chatting before the last century ended, long enough to know that the IRC experience could be better. And with the larger, more established networks already out there, we knew that we had to provide something truly special to attract a new userbase. So we set out to breathe life into our dream network. The end result: XtremeIRC

You've tried the others. You know what they're all about. So we invite you to fly high on the wings of our remarkable network and enjoy the experience, the overwhelming satisfaction of a full-bore IRC network.

XtremeIRC

The Nuts and Bolts

XtremeIRC runs InspIRCd-2.0 with Anope-2.0.3 Services.

InspIRCd was created from scratch to be stable, modern and lightweight. It avoids a number of design flaws and performance issues that plague other more established projects, such as UnrealIRCd, while providing the same level of feature parity.

It provides a tunable number of features through the use of an advanced but well documented module system. By keeping core functionality to a minimum we hope to increase the stability, security and speed of InspIRCd while also making it customisable to the needs of many different users.

Anope is a set of IRC Services designed for flexibility and ease of use.

Anope offers various services clients to maintain XtremeIRC network. Every service is aimed at one goal, offering a complete set of features for the given goal.

NickServ - nickname management services. NickServ allows you to register your nickname to prevent others from stealing your nickname. You will also be able to kill any ghost connections with your nickname and will be able to group your most-used nicknames together so they can use the same set of settings and access for all of your nicknames.

ChanServ - channel management services. ChanServ provides the ability to register your channels. This way ChanServ can be used to give channel operator status to regular operators, or to lock other modes or a topic for your channel. Our version of ChanServ provides a very complete set of features for channel management, allowing complete control over your channel.

MemoServ - send memos to users or channels. MemoServ offers a way to send short messages to users who are currently offline, or to entire channels if you wish. This allows you and your users to quickly tell offline users something, without a chance of forgetting it.

BotServ - channel bot services. XtremeIRC BotServ bots can join channels and take over most actions from ChanServ, making things just a tad more intuitive. Additionally, BotServ also adds a few features like fantasy commands and kick triggers.

HostServ - virtual host services. HostServ offers a way to easily provide virtual hosts to the users on XtremeIRC. Once your virtaul host is set, HostServ enables your virtual host every time you join the network.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do I register my nick?

A: In any channel, type: /msg nickserv register password e-mail

Enter a password of your choice and be sure to enter a legitimate e-mail address as you will receive a confirmation email with a code in it. Copy and paste the confirmation code back into the channel.

Q: Since I have to give my e-mail address when I register my nick, will others be able to see it?

A: No. By default, e-mail addresses are set to be hidden when you register your nick(s).

Only the nick owner will be able to see their own e-mail address.

Q: What can I do if I forget my password?

A: This is a simple, two-step process:

1) Type: /msg nickserv resetpass nickname e-mail

This sends a passcode to the nickname with instructions on how to reset their password. E-mail must be the e-mail address associated with the nickname.

2) Next, type: /msg nickserv set password new-password

This changes the password used to identify you as the nick's owner.

Q: How can I recover my nick?

A: Type: /msg nickserv recover nickname password

This recovers your nick from another user or from services. If services are currently holding your nick, the hold will be released. If another user is holding your nick and is identified they will be killed (similar to the old GHOST command). If they are not identified they will be forced off of the nick.

Q: How can I get a virtual host?

A: First, you must have a registered nick. Once that's done, and you have a vHost in mind, send a request to staff.

Staff can also set an ident for you, too. That's good for users who don't want to show a UID or an SID from chat clients like irccloud, etc. Virtual hosts can be a single word or multiple words.

For a vHost with an ident and a one-word vHost, type: /msg hostserv request YourIdentHere@MyNewVhost

For a vHost with an ident and a vHost that's not one word, type: /msg hostserv request YourIdentHere@My.New.Vhost or Your.Ident.Here@My.New.Vhost

For a vHost with no ident, type: /msg hostserv request MyNewVhost or My.New.Vhost

If you want a virtual host of, say, microsoft.com, then you must first prove to us that you're Bill Gates to get that.

If approved, staff will activate it and your host will automatically change to your requested vHost. Unapproved vHost requests will receive a rejection notice with the reason for rejection.

Q: How do I register a channel?

A: In your channel, type: /msg chanserv register #channelName [dscription]

Doing this will register you as the channel founder. Including a brief channel description is optional, but it allows others to find out what you want them to know about your channel at a glance.

Q: Why does my channel come with preset channel modes?

A: As described in the "What We Offer" section, XtremeIRC uses an extremely robust configuration of services.

And not everyone will understand what all the channel settings/modes are for. So we have taken the liberty of making sure that every new channel has optimum protection from its first breath.

Most of the settings might be known to most users. But not everyone has seen all we offer.

For example: E:~3:3 is for channel repeats, triggering channel protection after more than 3 repeats in 3 seconds. But what's unique about this is the ~ (the tilde sign). By using that, if a user repeat floods in your channel, they will simply have all their flood text delayed coming into the channel. Lines will come in one at a time every couple of seconds after the repeat flood has been triggered. This is a highly effective feature, more user friendly than kicking or banning. The ~ stops the flooder dead in their tracks.

Using the above example: E:3:3 means the user is kicked every time they repeat flood, while E:*3:3 means the repeat flooder will be banned.

XtremeIRC provides you ample tools for your channels. How you use them is up to you.
